EU to continue assistance to enhance security on Ukrainian-Moldovan border

The European Union will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine and Moldova to strengthen border security of the two states, the European side said this during the 10th meeting Ukraine - EU - Moldova on border and customs issues, held in Kyiv, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said in a statement.

"The EU side confirmed its readiness to continue to provide Ukraine and Moldova, through the EUBAM, with the necessary assistance to implement these ambitious goals," the report reads.

The EU delegation, in particular, included John Kjaer, Head of the Eastern Partnership Division at the European External Action Service and Udo Burkholder, Head of EU Border Assistance Mission to Ukraine and Moldova (EUBAM). The Ukrainian delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, and the Moldovan delegation - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Popov.

The participants noted the further strengthening of security at the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, a significant advance in demarcation, a progress in the development of systems of integrated border management in Ukraine and Moldova, the deepening of cooperation between the border and customs authorities of these countries, as well as with the EUBAM.

The sides also focused on the importance of further cooperation in the format of Ukraine - EU - Moldova on border and customs issues both for bilateral relations and to implement the European aspirations of these countries, primarily in the context of the implementation of action plans on visa liberalization with the EU .
