| 10 January 2012 The Danish Presidency of the European Union, from 1 January to 30 June this year, will actively support relations with the EU’s neighbours. The Programme of the Presidency says the implementation of the revised Neighbourhood Strategy will be one of its priorities. Denmark will seek to promote “greater flexibility, increased merit orientation and better coherence in the EU’s efforts in southern and eastern neighbourhood regions,” the Programme says, adding: “In the light of developments in the southern neighbouring countries, the Danish Presidency will prioritise discussions on additional trade liberalisation and migration aspects within the framework of the revised EU Global Approach to Migration among other things.” A press release from the Danish Presidency said this week would see the first Presidency meetings at the political level, including the meeting between the Danish Government and the European Commission, scheduled for 11-12 January. The official opening ceremony to mark the handing over of the Presidency from Poland to Denmark will take place on 11 January, the press release said. ENPI
