| 4 March 2010 On 1-2 March, a documentation mission of the European Commission visited Chisinau, holding discussions on the problem of the liberalization of visa regime with the European Union. The mission was organized as part of implementation of the provisions of the Joint Declaration of the RM – EU Cooperation Council passed on December 21, 2009. The mission, consisting of experts from the European Commission’s Directorate - General for External Relations and Directorate General for Justice, Freedom and Security, inquired on the following areas of the dialogue with the EU regarding visas: documents’ security, illegal migration, including readmission; public order and security; foreign relations. The members of the delegation met the heads of the MFAEI and representatives of all institutions the responsibilities of which include aspects related to visas. At the end of the visit the members of the mission had a meeting with Mr. Vladimir Filat, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, during which some preliminary conclusions were made. The mission mentioned particularly that it considered the launch of the dialogue on the liberalization of visa regime possible by mid-June 2010, with the condition of ensuring the support of EU member states in this direction. Also, the mission and the representatives of Moldovan government agreed upon the structure of the future dialogue, the coordinating role in which will be played by the MFAEI. The phases of the future activities aiming at visa-free travels of Moldovan citizens to the European Union were outlined.
