| 25 February 2010 Over 1.2 million Moldovans with residence in the settlements placed not far than 30-50 km from the border with Romania will be able to submit applications to get permits for small-distance movement to Romania starting from 1 March 2010. The spokesman for the Foreign and European Integration Minister, Valeriu Turea, made the announcement at a today's news briefing. Turea said that the applications could be submitted to the Chisinau-based Romanian Consulate starting from 1 March morning, and will be considered during 30 days. The permit itself will be given within 60 days. Only the people living in the border settlements for at least one year will be able to submit applications. The small-distance cross-border movement permit will contain the name and photo of the holder, place of birth, validity term, as well as the region to which the permit's holder is authorized to move. The permit will be issued for a period of 2-5 years, and the holders will subjected to border control, under the legislation of Moldova and Romania. The permit holders who will violate the regulations on the regime of small-distance cross-border movement will be sanctioned or even deprived of this act. The Moldovans living within a radius of 30-50 km far from the border with Romania from 18 districts - Cahul, Briceni, Glodeni, Riscani, Calarasi, Cantemir, Cimislia, Donduseni, Edinet, Falesti, Glodeni, Hincesti, Leova, Nisporeni, Ocnita, Singerei, Taraclia, Straseni, Ungheni - and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia will be able to submit applications for permit. The agreement on small-distance cross-border movement was signed between the Moldovan and Romanian government on 13 November 2009. The document regulates the juridical regime of cross-border movement. This regime sees that the Moldovan citizens with a residence in a settlement situated not far that 30-50 km from the border may move to Romania on the basis of the passport and the cross-border movement permit.
