Moldova and Poland sign joint statement on cooperation in European integration

19 February 2010

On 18 February 2010 Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Vlad Filat and Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk signed a Joint Statement on Cooperation in European Integration in Warsaw.

The document says that Poland confirms its wish to provide Moldova with long-term assistance in negotiations on an association agreement with the EU and to help it develop capacities and create institutions in charge of approaching European integration issues.

At the same time, Poland is ready to help step up administrative and institutional capacities in the customs services, agriculture and food security.

In addition, Poland will advance cooperation in order to improve Moldova's readiness for a comprehensive free trade agreement with the EU and will take efforts to further facilitate the visa regime between Moldova and the EU, in particular to liberalize the visa regime for Moldova. In this respect, Poland will take efforts so that visa dialogue between Moldova and the EU is launched as soon as possible in 2010.

The sides also agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the sector of trade and investments within the Moldovan-Polish commission for economic cooperation.

In the same document, Poland reiterates that it respects Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders and that a viable and final solution to the Transnistrian conflict can be found only within the five-plus-two format of negotiations. Moldova and Poland will step up cooperation particularly with the OSCE within the dialogue on European security, the document also says.
