Ukraine and Switzerland discuss readmission

3 December 2009

On December 3, 2009 Deputy Minister for Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Marmazov met with Chief of Department for International Treaties of the Federal Migration Office of Switzerland Laurent Perrier. In the course of the meeting with parties discussed draft Agreement between Ukraine and the Swiss Confederation on readmission of persons who stay illegally in the territory of these states.

- This is an important stage in Ukraine-Switzerland cooperation. It is important that these negotiations took place in the context of the general discussion on migration and visa regime, - noted Vasiliy Marmazov. – We are talking about adaptation to the European standards as neither Ukraine, nor Switzerland is a member of the EU, however, our countries take into consideration the developments in the EU countries.

Vasiliy Marmazov stressed that this round of negotiations is an important stage which will facilitate conclusion of the visa and readmission agreements as soon as possible.

The parties had a working discussion of the new draft Agreement between Ukraine and the Swiss Confederation on readmission of persons which Ukraine received this September along with the comments and amendments resulting from review of the document by the concerned authorities of Ukraine. In time the text of the Agreement will be adapted and reconciled in full and the proposal will be forwarded to Switzerland for discussion.
