| 6 October 2009 The CIS Council of Border Guard Agency Commanders will hold its meeting on October 7 in Chisinau. The parties plan to exchange their views of the situation at the external border of the Commonwealth, discuss the forms and methods of border protection, as well as debate the measures for strengthening border security. The parties will also discuss the measures for countering smuggling across the CIS border of materials, narcotics, psychotropic substances and prevention of irregular migration. The parties will also raise the issue of preventive measures against poaching and protection of sea and river biological resources in the areas controlled by border guard agencies of the countries participating in the meeting. This type of joint operations with deployment of mobile groups of border guard specialists for rapid reaction to border threats are planned for 2010. The agenda of the meeting includes proposals for development of additional joint measures for border control to prevent and detect transportation of victims of trafficking in human beings in and from the country, as well as for development of the guidelines for analysis and forecasting of illegal activity at the CIS states’ borders and for employing modern scientific methods and technologies in analysis and forecasting. The meeting will be attended by delegations of eleven border guard agencies from the CIS states, as well as by representatives of the relevant organs of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Anti-Terrorist Center, EAEC. The Council meeting for the first time is going to welcome FRONTEX representatives.
