| 1 October 2009 The delegation of high-level officials of the European Commission visited Ukraine on 29 and 30 September during the Eastern Partnership Road Show. They presented the latest development in the Eastern Partnership to Ukrainian public authorities, civil society and media from both national and regional levels. Finally, they also outlined the next steps to be taken still in 2009. European Commission representatives presenting the Eastern Partnership to Ukrainian media (from left to right): Egidio Canciani, Deputy Head of unit “ENP general coordination”; Bruno Demothas, Head of the Task Force “Eastern Partnership”; José Manuel Pinto Teixeira, Ambassador and the Head of the EC Delegation to Ukraine; Reinhold Brender, Deputy Head of Unit “Relations with Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Southern Caucasus” . Bruno Dethomas, who led the delegation and who is chairing the EC Task Force for the Eastern Partnership stressed several times: "We in the European Commission are not naïve and we are aware that we will need to face several challenges on the way to the implementation of the Eastern Partnership, but I am sure that we will jointly succeed". It has been emphasised during all presentations that the bilateral dimension of cooperation with Ukraine is the major and most important one. Nevertheless, the multinational approach (cooperation between the EU and the group of six countries covered by the Eastern Partnership) is also significant since it complements and builds on the bilateral relations with Ukraine. EC officials also presented next steps to be undertaken in near future. In practical and concrete terms, these will be the second rounds of meetings of 4 thematic platforms composed by representatives of the EU as well as 6 participating countries. The role of these platforms is to come up with lists of concrete goals and projects. Next, these projects will be passed to the meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of the Eastern Partnership (27 EU Member States + 6 Eastern Partnership countries) in early December for the final approval.
