| 19 August 2009 The number of people who applied for Estonian citizenship in the first two quarters of this year increased from the final quarter of 2008, the interior minister Marko Pomerants said. According to him, the growth in numbers was partially attributable to a personal approach, which consisted of informing parents upon the registration of the birth of a child about the possibility to get citizenship for the child through a simple procedure. Besides, personal advice was offered to stateless residents at offices of the Citizenship and Migration Board and by telephone. The state is sending informing letters bearing the signature of the interior minister to the persons eligible to apply for citizenship as well.
