| 10 August 2009 From 5-6 August the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine is conducting a seminar for Moldovan law enforcement agencies on fighting organised crime. The seminar aims to enable more effective strategies to prevent and investigate organised crime in Moldova and Europe. It is held in collaboration with Europol and facilitated by Mr John Abbott, the former Head of the National Criminal Intelligence Service of the UK and the former Vice President of Interpol. Participants of the seminar are discussing current and future threats from organised crime in Moldova, Europe and globally. They are exploring ways to improve information exchange and cooperation between all law enforcement agencies to fighting organised crime in Moldova more effectively. An expert from Europol is presenting various instruments used on the EU level to coordinate efforts in fighting organised crime such as the European Criminal Intelligence Model and the European Organised Crime Threat Assessment. Senior representatives of all national law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Moldova are taking part in the seminar including Border Guard Service, Customs Service, Tax Administration, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice, Security and Information Service, General Prosecutor Office, Centre on Combating Economic Crime and Corruption, Centre for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings as well as representatives of the Parliament. The seminar is a part of the capacity building project of EUBAM, aimed at improving efforts of Moldova and Ukraine on fighting organised crime. In 2008 EUBAM conducted the first round of seminars for Moldovan and Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, which covered key elements of tackling organised crime. In 2009 EUBAM organised study visits to Poland and Slovenia.
