| 24 July 2009 Since 1 July Agreement on small cross-border movement between Ukraine and Poland entered into force. 1,5 million of Lviv and Volyn region dwellers have obtained a right for the simplified border crossing. General consulates of Poland in Lviv and Lutsk are already accepting necessary documents for issuance a certificate of the participant of the small cross-border movement. Local governments of the regions which dwellers are eligible under the Agreement on small cross-border movement, i.e. are living in the 30 km zone from the Polish border, received letters with clarification on the conditions of the Agreement from the Generale Consulate of Poland. Special card costs 20 euro In order to get a special card which allows simplified border-crossing, one should submit an application, passport, certificate which confirms living in the border are for at least 3 years, two photographs and documents which substantiate the need for frequent border crossing. A lot of local regions dwellers have family or relatives in the border Poland, also having their relatives buried in the cemeteries at the border regions. Card will be issued free of charge only to disabled people and minors, for other categories it will cost 20 euro. Also, medical insurance is needed for 14 days of stay in Poland. Permit for the simplified border crossing will not be issued to the people who violated the conditions of the Schengen visa. Representatives of local authorities made a request into the Consulate General of Poland in Lviv asking that consulate workers come directly into the villages and small cities so that it is possible for people to hand in necessary documents on spot. As there are large queues now at the consulates, which creates inconveniencies and rush - 1,500 settlements of Lviv and Volyn regions are within the small border-movement area.
