Belarus, Lithuania initialed a state border regime agreement

30 June 2009

Belarus and Lithuania initialed a state border regime agreement during a working visit in Grodno. On the Belarusian part, the agreement was signed by Maj. Gen. Igor Rachkovskiy, Chairman of the State Border Guard Committee, and on the Lithuanian part – by Zianonas Kumetaitis, Deputy Director of Eastern Neighborhood Department, MFA of Lithuania.

In the near future, a decision will be made on the governmental level concerning simplified movement of persons within a 50-km zone on both sides of the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. This would allow 600-700 thousand people to move according to simplified rules in order to develop business, relative and neighborhood relations.
