| 11 June 2009 A two-day working meeting of representatives of border agencies of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine ended 11 June in Pinsk, Belarus. The parties summed up results of Border 2009 joint special border guard operation (JSBGO) conducted during 5-21 May 2009 under general coordination of the Republic of Belarus’ State Border Guard Committee. The JSBGO was conducted to detect and suppress, within border areas, activities of cross-border and other criminal groups involved in illegal movement of material values, narcotic substances and psychotropic agents across state borders of the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation and Ukraine as well as to detect and destroy illegal migrant smuggling channels. About 20 trespassers, more than 15 violators of the state border regime, and 5 persons wanted were apprehended in the Belarusian border segment during the operation. About 300 persons having invalid documents were detected. Forty cases of illegal goods movement amounting to about 1 billion roubles were suppressed. About 50 foreign nationals and stateless persons were held administratively liable, and more than 20 foreigners were removed from Belarus. One unlawful activity channel was revealed, and 3 criminal cases were instituted. Four cases were recorded when border guard servicemen refused to take a bribe. USD 50 thousand and UAH 20 thousand were withdrawn from illegal circulation.
