From 5-6 July the Head of the European Commission's Directorate for Strategy, Cooperation and Analysis Mr Gerhard Sabathil visited EUBAM Headquarters in Odesa and the Field Office in Kuchurhan.
In Kuchurhan, the Head of Mission Mr Ferenc Banfi presented EUBAM’s operations in the field and EUBAM’s action plan in 2009. Representatives of the Ukrainian border guard and customs services reflected on their cooperation experience with EUBAM. Mr Sabathil also met with representatives of local authorities, the Deputy Governor of Odesa Region Mr Maksim Stepanov and the Head of Odesa Regional Council Mr Mykola Skoryk to discuss cooperation between the EC and countries in the Black Sea region. Mr Sabathil was also interested to learn about EUBAM’s experience in Ukraine and Moldova to explore how this knowledge can be used in other EU projects in the area of justice and home affairs.
