| 16 June 2009 The Foreign and European Integration Ministry's (MAEIE) mass media and public relations directorate has made available to MOLDPRES the following communique: "The EU Council of Foreign Ministers, which convened in Luxembourg on 15 June 2009, adopted its Conclusions on Moldova, according to which the EU reiterates its strong commitment to further consolidate the relations with Moldova. The EU is willing to provide consolidated support to Moldova to continue the political and economic reforms. Special attention is to be paid to democracy and the state based on the rule of law, including by the launch of a "comprehensive package" of actions to this end. In the context of the political situation in Moldova, which is permanently in the focus of the European institutions, the EU Council stresses the need of a constructive dialogue. At the same time, the Council informs about the adoption of a mandate of negotiations for the future agreement between Moldova and the EU, which, by its comprehensive character, will outstrip the present Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. Touching upon the Transnistrian issue, the EU foreign ministers emphasized the importance to fully observe the principles of Moldova's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. They urged the resumption of the negotiations in the 5+2 format - the only format which guarantees the lawfulness and transparency of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. The MAEIE is considering the EU's opinion on other subjects set forth in the conclusions, and expresses Moldova's interest in starting negotiations on a new agreement on association with the EU as soon as possible; this process will surely contribute to further boosting the relations between the Moldova and the European Union."
