From June 1-5 a group of public relation officers from the border guard and customs services of Ukraine and Moldova visited Latvia. The goal of the study visit was to share the experience with Latvian colleagues in working with mass media and local communities and to learn new approaches to public communication. During the visit 12 participants from Ukraine and Moldova had an opportunity to study various reforms in the Latvian border services prior accession to the EU. In addition, they explored the role of public relations offices in the Latvian governmental agencies. The representatives of the border guard and customs services had a chance to learn about communication strategies and activities of the Border Guard Service and the National Customs Board of Latvia, to travel to the Terehova border crossing point on the Latvian-Russian border, and to study the structure of professional border guard education in the National Border Guard College.
