18 February 2009DG Justice, Freedom and Security commissioned the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) to undertake a Study on practices in the area of regularisation of illegally staying third-country nationals in the Member States of the EU. The study was commissioned subsequent to the Commission’s Communication on policy priorities in the fight against illegal immigration of third-country nationals (COM(2006) 402 of 19 July 2006), in which the Commission announced that it would undertake a study on regularisation, the purpose of which was to collect concrete factual, statistical, economic and legal information on issues related to regularisations, in order to inform future EU policy in this area. The study consists of the report and three appendices (Appendix A – country studies (Spain, Italy, Greece, France, UK, Switzerland); Appendix B – country profiles (22 EU states and USA);Appendix C – statistical annex).
