| 17 October 2008 On 17 October Mr Andrei Stratan, Deputy Prime-Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, had a meeting with Mr. Peteris Ustubs, Political Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, and Mr.Jean-Arthur Regibeau, Political Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Cooperation for Development of the Kingdom of Belgium, who are in Chisinau for a documentation visit concerning the evolutions in the European integration process of our country. The Minister informed the European diplomats about the main aspects of the pro-European endeavour of the Republic of Moldova. In this context, he referred to the implementation of the Common Visa Centre project, the efficient activity of the European Union Border Assistance Mission in Moldova and Ukraine, as well as to the participation in the Mobility Partnership with the EU, our country being the only state in the region that has concluded such a cooperation platform with European Union. All these elements and the dynamic participation in the main regional cooperation mechanisms justify the request for a differentiated treatment from the European Union of the Republic of Moldova in its integration process. The Minister noted that the recent conclusions, regarding the Republic of Moldova, adopted at the Council of General Affairs and External Relations of the EU (CAGRE), on October 13th in Luxembourg, is a very encouraging signal. Moldova hopes that the dynamism of the Moldova—EU relations in the last period will have a logical continuation in a EU member states’ decision to mandate the European Commission to launch as soon as possible negotiations on a new legal framework of the of Moldova—EU relations. With the aim to obtain maximum travel facilities in the Community space, the Minister stated that Moldova is ready to examine the conditions to be fulfilled in order to benefit from a visa free regime for its citizens within a clear defined period.
