| The consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia took place on October 9—10, 2008 in Chisinau. The parties have discussed issues related to facilitation of travels of Moldovan citizens to Latvia, cancellation of visa fee for Moldovan citizens who are applying for a Latvia national visa, implementation of the Visa Facilitation Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and European Community, support of the Latvian state in the dialog between the RM and EU on visa liberalization, implementation of project of mutual interest in the field of migration management etc. The Latvian party has expressed during the consultation its availability to examine the proposals concerning facilitation of travel regime to the Republic of Latvia for Moldovan citizens as well as cancellation of some fees for the issuance of visas. Moreover, the parties have agreed to strengthen their cooperation in consular projects related to protection of rights and interests of citizens of both states. Also, the Latvian diplomats have had a meeting at the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons of the MIA where issues of combating illegal migration of Moldovan citizens to the Republic of Latvia have been discussed. During the meeting it has been concluded, that efficient common cooperation will contribute to a better migration management and preventing of illegal migration and trafficking in human begins.
