Belarus’ migration personnel training centre able to train specialists from all countries

18 September 2008

The international centre for training and re-education of migration and slave trade counteraction personnel at the Belarus’ Interior Ministry Academy should be transformed into a major training centre that could provide training not only for the specialists from the CIS member states, but also from other countries, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Brunson McKinley told media on September 18.

“I envisage a great future for this centre. It can provide training for CIS specialists, but the geography of the centre should encompass other countries. Apart from that, the training of specialists in other areas should also be developed,” he said.

Brunson McKinley praised the role of Belarus in human trafficking prevention. According to him, the major cooperation areas between Belarus and the IOM are the introduction of biometric passports and control over migration flows. Apart from that, the settlement of the labour migration issues in Belarus is deemed to be one of the prospective areas of cooperation. “At present, this problem is not very urgent here, but your country can facilitate the labour migration,” the IOM Director General noted.
