Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine meets State Secretary of Justice of the Netherlands

6 September 2008

On 6 September, a meeting was held in the MFA of Ukraine between Kostyantyn Yeliseyev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and Nebahat Albayrak, State Secretary of Justice of the Netherlands.

In the course of the meeting, the parties considered topical issues of Ukraine-EU cooperation in the field of migration and visas, in particular the current state of implementation of the agreements between Ukraine and the European Community on visa facilitation and readmission of persons.

In this regard, the Dutch party agreed with importance of elimination of any shortcomings and with the need for the EU party’s steady compliance with provisions of the Agreement on the facilitation of the issuance of visas.

Special attention was paid to discussion of a prospect of launching a substantial targeted dialog with the EU on further liberalization of the visa regime and provision of proper conditions for abolition by the EU Member States of visa requirements for Ukrainian nationals.

Nebahat Albayrak voiced the hope that the Evian EU-Ukraine Summit would give a “green light” to a dialog on identification of criteria and conditions meeting which would open the way towards a visa-free regime.
