The Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs meets the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Hungary

The Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lazăr Comănescu, met on September 9th, 2008, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Hungary, Kingá Göncz.

The main purpose of discussions of the two ministers was the preparation of the joint cabinet reunion of this year of the Government of Romania and the Government of Hungary. It was agreed that the issues which would be approached by the two cabinets to be as pragmatic as possible and covering domains of common interest for the citizens of the two countries, such as the improvement of road, railroad and fluvial infrastructure between Romania and Hungary, the development of border regions and the absorption of the community funds for the Romania's Accession to Schengen area or the energetic security issues and the Nabucco Project.

The heads of the two diplomacies analyzed the development of the strategic partnership between the two countries. The two parties reconfirmed their wish to consolidate the Romanian-Hungarian cooperation on political and economical level as well as on the protection of the rights of persons belonging to national minorities of the two countries. „The discussions we had and that will continue today, highlighted once again, the excellent relation that Romania has with Hungary, regarding both the classic bilateral relations and the cooperation within the EU", stated Minister Lazăr Comănescu at the end of the meeting... „We have discussed also about the role of the Hungarian minority in Romania and the role of the Romanian minority in Hungary, minorities acting as true connecting bridges, which accelerate the ongoing development of the relation with Hungary"”, added Lazăr Comănescu.

During the meeting the Ministers Comănescu and Göncz have discussed also subjects existing on the European and international political agenda. With respect to these discussions, the Romanian Minister declared for the press the following: I was extremely satisfied to see that, regarding to the European policies and international and especially regional developments, Romania's and Hungary's opinions are practically identical. Romania and Hungary will continue to be pro-active in promoting and consolidating the European Neighborhood Policy, including in the Black Sea region and to cooperate for the consolidation of the stability and European perspective of the West Balkans”.
