| Established in 1996, the Belarusian Movement of Medical Workers (BMMW) is a non-political and non-commercial organisation whose main aim is rendering social assistance and protection to people in need and refugees. Since 1997, the BMMW has been implementing UNHCR projects providing legal and social assistance to refugees and asylum seekers. Currently, the BMMW is carrying out a joint UNHCR project - “Refugee Counselling Service” (RCS). Lawyers of the two RCS centres in Minsk and Vitebsk provide refugees and asylum seekers with legal advice on the effective legislation and refugee status determination procedure and assist them with submitting their applications to migration services, appealing against negative decisions, representing their cases vis-à-vis Ministry of Interior in case of detention, and providing interpretation services during interviews. The BMMW participates in the process as a member of the network of experts set up by the Secretariat as part of its information-sharing activities. |
