State Border Guard Service presents its working program

7 December 2007

On 6 December 2007 in the Administration of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine presented a modern system of state border protection for prevention of external threats. The event is the initiative of the North Atlantic Alliance member states. The Chairman of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Col. Gen. Mykola Lytvyn, heads of diplomatic missions and law-enforcement attaches of the North Atlantic Alliance member states took part in the presentation.

The presentation includes familiarization with the current status of reformation of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine as a European-style law-enforcement agency, with its place in the national security sector system, as well as with samples of modern innovative equipment and facilities used for guarding of Ukraine’s state border common with the European Union member states.

In May 2007, pursuant to the Decree by the President of Ukraine “On the National System for coordination of Ukraine’s cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization”, the Chairman of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Col. Gen. Mykola Lytvyn signed an order aimed to streamline the border agency’s cooperation with other central executive authorities, ministries and agencies, and international organizations concerning relations with NATO. During the 18 months after the publication of the order, the border agency experts have made a notable contribution into the implementation of the state policy for development of cooperation with NATO. That’s why the presentation on “Security of European borders: Ukrainian dimension” was a kind of summing-up of the work carried out during that period.
