Visa free regime for Bulgaria and Romania

21 November 2007

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine established a visa-free regime with Bulgaria and Romania for the agreement on facilitation of the visa regime with EU to take effect, Foreign Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said referring to a resolution passed by the CMU meeting on Wednesday. The resolution amends the Rules of Entry to Ukraine of Foreigners and Stateless Persons, Their Exit from Ukraine, and Transit via its Territory. The resolution comes into force simultaneously with the Ukraine-European Union agreement on facilitation of visa procedures signed 18 June 2007. Ukraine expects the EU Council to ratify the agreement this Wednesday. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, EU Commissioner for External Relations, some time ago warned Ukraine on the need to cancel visas for Romania and Bulgaria for the visa procedure facilitation agreement to take effect but the MFA disproved such a need. In March, Ukraine and the EU agreed to extend effect of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement to Bulgaria and Romania.
