| 13 November 2007 The Security Service of Ukraine held a round table to discuss the government of Ukraine and civil society efforts in building tolerance and combating xenophobia in Ukraine. The Government of Ukraine was represented by the State Committee for Nationalities and Religion, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Presidential Administration, Prosecutor General Office. The round table was chaired by the acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine – Valentyn Nalyvaychenko. Mr. Nalyvaychenko briefed the participants on the newly established xenophobia unit in the Security Service and its coordination efforts in making the unit more effective through: 1. Coordination with NGOs; 2. Inter-ministerial coordination of law enforcement agencies; 3. Ensuring that crimes are prosecuted/handed in court. It is expected that a meeting of such a scale will be held on a regular basis and address issues of concern - raising tolerant attitude in the Ukrainian society and combating instances of xenophobia.
