| 13 November 2007 Visa relations between Belarus and Lithuania will be discussed during a meeting of Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valery Voronetsky and Undersecretary of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Laimonas Talat-Kelpsa in Druskininkai on 15 November. This is linked to Lithuania’s accession to the Shengen agreement on 21 December 2007. By the end of the year Belarus and Lithuania are supposed to settle all matters regarding mutual travels of individuals, including travels of people, who live near the border. According to provisional agreements after Lithuania accedes to the Schengen Agreement, some Belarusian citizens will be able to get visas from the Lithuanian embassy according to facilitated procedures. Belarusian and Lithuanian Transport Ministers will also partake in the meeting in Druskininkai. The ministers will talk over cooperation in transport and transit sphere, opportunities for navigation using inland waterways, prospects of developing tourism. There are also plans to consider the operation of border checkpoints after Lithuania’s accession to the Schengen Agreement. |
