| 8 October 2007 On 4-5 October 2007, UNHCR and the Council of Europe conducted in Kyiv a joint round table to discuss legal status of refugees, foreigners and stateless persons in Ukraine. The round table was attended and remarks have been delivered from the State Committee on Nationalities and Religion related to Concept paper on State Migration Policy in Ukraine, from the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on improvement of legal status of refugees and persons in need of international protection. UNHCR provided its comments on the draft legislation on refugees and persons eligible for international protection, while the Council of Europe experts highlighted legal provisions of the Ukrainian draft law which should be further amended to reflect core provisions of the humanitarian law. The current seminar is one of the seminars organised by UNHCR and the Council of Europe experts to provide advice to the government of Ukraine on how to adapt Ukrainian refugee legislation in line with international norms.
