| 18 September 2007 During a working meeting between Mr. Arseniy Yacenuk, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and his Hungarian counterpart, Mr. Kingoi Genc in Uzhgorod, Ukraine, a bilateral agreement was signed on procedures on cross-border crossings. Signature of this agreement is very important for Ukraine with a view of upcoming accession of Hungary to the Schengen agreement, expected on 1 January 2008. The agreement foresees visa-free travel for Hungarian and Ukrainian nationals living within a joint 50 km border line. Simplified authorisation for cross-border crossings is meant a legal authorisation for cross-border crossings and will be issued for a 5-year period by the Consular Departments.
