On 26 July, a meeting was held at the Office for Migration and Refugees, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with Mr. Martin McLaughlin, chief of Garda, National Migration Bureau, and Ms. Maura Heynes, representative of the Republic of Ireland’s Department of Justice. The meeting’s goal was to familiarize the Irish delegation with activities of the institutions responsible for management and monitoring of migration processes, which will become the basis for cooperation between the MIA Office for Migration and Refugees and the Republic of Ireland’s National Migration Bureau in the field of migration and refugees. The meeting aimed to:

- provide technical support and necessary equipment for the Office’s further operation;

- develop the Common Information System in the field of migration;

- borrow the Irish authorities’ best practices in migration management and exchange information about migration policy and strategy, repatriation and readmission of persons exceeding their period of stay, including third-country nationals;

- establish common interests for the cooperation between responsible institutions in the field of migration of the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Ireland;

- implement projects on migrants’ voluntary return.

The Irish delegation also learned the Office for Migration and Refugees’ activities and structure, and paid a visit to the center for accommodation of asylum seekers.
