All funds provided for in the Schengen financial program for state border streamlining will be drawn, as Gunars Dabolins, chief of the State Border Guards (SBG), assured at a press conference. SBG has already concluded EUR 39.9 million’s worth of agreements within the program, this being 60% of total funding. In the Schengen financial program framework, the border guards have purchased several vehicles, computer equipment and software, personal and transport checking equipment in the first six months of the current year, and have also upgraded communications system and carried out some construction and renovation work. Implementation of the Schengen program-funded projects is a priority for SBG this year, Dabolins emphasized and added that the agency has been preparing for control inspection of implementation of the Schengen Information System scheduled for September.
