68 repatriates have moved to Latvia for permanent residence this year. Compared to the similar period of the previous year, the number of repatriates is 10 persons less. As Delfi portal was told in the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, the largest number of repatriates came from Russia (32), Ukraine (8), and the US (8). Beginning from 2006, material aid has been provided to 96 repatriates. 13,285 lats have been spent on covering traveling expenses, benefits and Latvian language courses. In 2006, 174 persons came back to Latvia, and 237 persons did so in 2005. Since 1995 when the repatriation procedure was introduced, Latvia has received 5,423 persons. |
