Cooperation among migration services of Ukraine and Belarus

On May 29-31 2007, the acting Head of the State Committee for Nationalities and Religion Georgy Popov was on a working visit to Minsk, upon invitation of the Plenipotentiary on Religion and Nationalities of the Republic of Belarus Leonid Guliako. The purpose of the visit was to exchange experiences of work in the sphere of interethnic relations, to conduct negotiations on drafting an Agreement on Cooperation between the Ukrainian State Committee for Nationalities and the Office of the Plenipotentiary on Religion and Nationalities of the Republic of Belarus, as well as to hold a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian civil society organisations in Belarus. Georgy Popov informed the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus about the legislative framework and activities of the Ukrainian government in the sphere of religious policy. The parties positively assessed efforts by both countries aimed at comprehensive protection of national minorities’ rights. Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Ugolnik emphasized the absence of demonstrations of any prejudice on part of the Belarussian government against Ukraine.
