| 21 May 2007 The EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) expressed satisfaction with the results of the third joint operation on the border carried out last month. Forty-six contraband cases were discovered and nine means of transport detained during the operation. There were found 21.5 kg of psychotropic substances worth $321,000 and seized 616 illegally kept munitions. The border police arrested 87 persons who attempted to cross the state frontier illegally. A number of 893 persons were banned from crossing the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. The control group instituted 210 administrative cases and three legal cases. Among the most serious contraband cases were the smuggling of 40 tons of meat, 17 tons of tomatoes, 26,000 bottles of alcoholic drinks and 11 kg of marijuana. The first two joint operations had been organized in April and October 2006.
