Latvia fights illegal labour

Every enterprise employs an illegal worker, says the State Labor Inspectorate that visited 1285 enterprises during the first four months of the year and found 1163 illegal workers there. This was told to Delfi portal by Martins Poznjaks, the inspectorate’s public relations expert. According to him, most often illegal workers are detected in Riga and Riga district, Yurmala (501), Latgalia, where 152 cases of labor relations without any proper contract have been found, Zemgala (140), Ogra, Aikraukls and Ekabpilss districts (70), Zemelvidzeme (81), Austrumvidzeme (80), Kurzeme (139). Since February, the inspectorate’s website (www.vdi.gov.lv/statistika) publishes names of every businessman at whose enterprise illegal workers have been revealed.
