| 14 May 2007 3,181,425 individuals and 699,443 vehicles have been allowed to cross the state border since the beginning of the current year. Of them: - in the Moldova-Romania segment of the state border: 506,255 individuals and 159,075 vehicles; - in the Moldova-Ukraine segment of the state border: 2,543,663 individuals and 537,923 vehicles; - in the air segment: 131,506 individuals and 2,445 vehicles. Due to abolition of the visa regime, statistics of the above-mentioned period shows 50% increase in the visits of the EU Member State nationals to the Republic of Moldova compared to the corresponding period of 2006. Besides, 20,000 more individuals have crossed the state border in the Moldova-Romania segment. Every day, border guards identify in the passenger flow citizens of our country as well as foreign nationals who produce false, forged or alien documents at the control point. During the period between January and April 2007, border guards apprehended at checkpoints 153 offenders using such tricks for illegal border crossing.
