Police authorities of Belarus combat human trafficking

14 April 2007

The 4th conference on “Prospects of international law-enforcement cooperation against human trafficking” was held in Minsk, organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

The forum involved more than 80 representatives from 29 countries of the CIS, Europe, Persian Gulf, the Middle East, South East Asia, as well as members of international organizations and diplomatic missions.

The conference was a logical continuation of similar forums held in Belarus in 2003, in Kyiv in 2004, and in Chisinau in 2005 during which recommendations were elaborated for international cooperation against human trafficking. Participants of the latter meeting amended and the recommendations, outlined priority list of problems requiring quick response, and exchanged practical developments. Within the framework of the event, the international training center for education, skills improvement and re-qualification of staff in the field of migration and fight against human trafficking was presented. The center is used by the MoI Academy and scheduled for opening in July.
