4 April 2007

The research study "Attitudes among Residents, Government Officials and Non-government Organizations (NGOs) of Latvia towards Asylum Seekers" was carried out within the framework of the EQUAL project "Step by Step" initiated by the European Union, and was commissioned by the International Organization for Migration. The objective of the research study was to evaluate the attitudes among residents of Latvia towards asylum seekers, to ascertain the disposition and work experience of officials of government and non-government organizations relating to asylum seekers, and develop suggestions for work with asylum seekers. The study was based on quantitative and qualitative research. The quantitative research used the data from the public opinion polls, whereas qualitative research relied in information obtained from expert interviews and discussions with selected focus groups - government and non-government organizations.
