| 30 March 2007 On 27-28 March in Lisbon, the Minister of Interior of Portugal, Antonio Costa, handed over the information technology software for SISOne4All project to the Ministers of Interior of the new EU Member States. The software includes an updated program of SIS I, first-generation Schengen Information System, developed by Portugal. Estonia, the Minister of Interior of which Kalle Laanet took part in the meeting, is going to commence installation of the software in its Central Criminal Police’s information system in April this year. Representatives of the Central Criminal Policy partook in the training on 27-28 March in Portugal for usage of the system software. SISOne4All software of the new EU Member States wishing to join Schengen must be ready by late August this year. A group of experts from the EU Member States will come to assess implementation of the Schengen Information System in September 2007. On 15 February, Ministers of Interior of the EU Member States approved an updated schedule suggested by the European Commission based on which the new system will be ready for use in December 2008. Until that, the new EU Member States will continue step-by-step application of SISOne4All Schengen Information System. The Estonian government allocated 17 million crowns to the Ministry of Interior for SISOne4All application. Portugal suggested joining the Schengen legal space with SISOne4All as a temporary solution when problems had emerged in the development of the second-generation SIS application of which would postpone joining Schengen for an uncertain period of time. Due to SISOne4All implementation the first possible date for enlargement of the Schengen legal space is December 2007.
