| 21 March 2007 A meeting of the inter-agency coordination council for cross-border cooperation with neighbouring countries was held 22 March at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus. The meeting involved representatives of the MFA, the Ministry of Emergencies, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the State Committee for Border Troops, and the State Customs Committee of Belarus. They looked into the issues related to a simplified procedure of crossing of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border by individuals, goods and cargos heading for the Chornobyl NPP via the Iolcha-Nedanchichi railway border checkpoint. Besides, the meeting summed up results of the Inter-agency coordination council’s activities in 2006. The inter-agency coordinating council for cross-border cooperation with neighbouring countries was established on 18 December 2004 as an advisory body to coordinate joint activities of public authorities in the implementation of Belarus’ border cooperation with its neighbouring countries (Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, and Russia). Its functions include definition of core priorities, handling of problematic issues, and consideration of draft programs and international agreements in cross-border cooperation with neighbouring countries.
