Moldova’s cooperation with EUBAM

Ference Banfi, Head of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Ukraine and Moldova (EUBAM), visited the National Border Guard College and VEST Regional Department of Moldova. In the course of his meeting with officers of the Border Guard Service of Moldova, information about the Mission’s activities, its composition and tasks of its experts were presented. Gen. Banfi noted that bilateral cooperation had improved, and voiced his support for further assistance from the Border Guard Services. Mikhail Bulat, Head of VEST Regional Department, told about work of his unit, main tasks concerning control and supervision on the Moldovan-Romanian border segment, and cooperation with Romanian colleagues. At the end of the visit, Ference Banfi visited the National Border Guard College which is going to commence its operations in September 2007, aimed improving the level and quality of the Service officers’ professional training. The Head of the Mission pointed out that the EUBAM intended to provide assistance to the Border Service in improving and training of its staff.
