| 16 March 2007 According to data from the State Border Service of Ukraine, the number of illegal migrants detected in January-February this year is almost 2.5 times higher than over the corresponding period of the previous year. In 2006 this number constituted 2073 while this year has shown 5010 already. 272 persons were detained for illegal crossing; 4271 foreigners were denied entry in the territory of Ukraine; 465 persons were detained for violations of the rules of stay in Ukraine. Majority among the foreigners detained consisted of the nationals of Moldova (1734), Uzbekistan (825), Tajikistan (727), Armenia (395), Azerbaijan (352), Kyrgyzstan (208), Georgia (182), Russia (177), India (71), Turkey (60), Pakistan (42), Iraq (38), Vietnam (30), and China (24).
