| 19 March 2007 On 16 March 2007, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the European Convention on the Legal Status of Migrant Workers. The draft Law No. 63 on the Ratification of the European Convention on the Legal Status of Migrant Workers was passed in whole. This decision was supported with 238 votes of the parliamentarians. The adopted law includes the following reservation to Article 28 of the Convention: “Ukraine recognizes the migrant workers’ right to establish organizations for protecting their economic and social interests, except for political parties and trade unions”. The European Convention on the Legal Status of Migrant Workers was adopted on 24 November 1977. It was signed on behalf of Ukraine on 2 March 2004 in Strasbourg. Article 28 of the Convention deals with exercise of the migrant workers’ right for association. It reads that “each Contracting Party shall allow to migrant workers the right to associate for the protection of their economic and social interests on the conditions provided for by national legislation for its own nationals”.
