| 15 March Within the framework of the of the EU AENEAS-UNHCR project “Strengthening the Protection Capacity in the Republic of Belarus”, UNHCR conducted a seminar on Mixed Migration Flows and International Protection of Refugees on 13-14 March in Resort Complex “Logoisk” (Minsk Region). Issues such as nexus between asylum and migration, experience on disentangling of mixed migration flows for asylum seekers and migrants, legislation on refugees, procedure of transferring of asylum seekers and its implementation in Belarus and experience of Belarus and EU on border monitoring were discussed at the seminar. The seminar gathered experts and officials from UNHCR, IOM, the State Committee of the Border Troops and the Department on Citizenship and Migration, the border services officials from Russia, Ukraine and Hungary as well as the representatives of non-governmental organizations working with refugees from Belarus and Slovakia are expected to participate in the seminar. This seminary is the first one in the series of EU-UNHCR project “Strengthening the Protection Capacity in the Republic of Belarus”. Other thematic seminars are planned to be conducted during 2007-2008.
