Poland and Ukraine discuss implications of Schengen area widening

28 February 2007

Experts from Poland and Ukraine have met in Lublin to discuss the possible implications of widening the Schengen area in January 2008. Poland is to join the list of countries without customs control by that time. Citizens of the countries outside the area, which will soon be the case for Ukraine, will have to obtain paid visas. Polish and Ukrainian experts are reportedly not afraid that this will cause the demise of the local petty trade, as people living in the area close to the Polish-Ukrainian border are to be subject to special local rules.
