Latvia and Lithuania introduce joint border control

21 February 2007

Governments of Latvia and Lithuania reached an agreement on 20 February 2007 to sign a bilateral agreement on opening of joint border checkpoints. The document offers border control checks on the borders of Latvia and Lithuania jointly by representatives of both countries’ border agencies. This will in turn result in changing the status of existing border checkpoints that will become international border control stations, which meets EU border control standards.
