Simplified procedure of Moldova-Ukraine state border crossing introduced

On 16 February 2007, the Protocol between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on amending and supplementing the Agreement on Moldova-Ukraine Border Checkpoints and Simplified Admission of Border Area Residents will come into force. The protocol was signed on 29 May 2006. According to its provisions, the nationals of the Republic of Moldova residing in border areas will be able to cross the state border on the simplified terms by walking, by bicycle, or by means of transport belonging to them, having up to 3.5 tons capacity, on the basis of identity cards or passports of the Republic of Moldova nationals. This will considerably simplify the procedure of Moldova-Ukraine state border crossing for hundreds of thousands of Moldovan citizens living in border areas, and provide especially favorable conditions for further development of relationship, social, cultural and economic ties between the people residing close to the border in Moldova and Ukraine.
