Moldova BG, 7 February 2007 A seminar on Integrated Border Management was organized by the Border Service of Moldova with support from and participation of experts of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine. The seminar mainly aimed to acquaint future Border Service officers and students with the concept of integrated border management in Moldova and its introduction into service as well as with practices of the EU Member States in this field. The Integrated Border Security Model is the name of the system covering all the aspects of border policy, with border management (border control and supervision) being the central one. Border control means exercising control in established border checkpoints. Border supervision means exercising supervision between state border checkpoints. The European experts emphasized that integrated state border management in the European Union is a major area that assumes keeping and expanding the free zone of security and justice and addresses such aspects as migration, asylum, border control, combating drugs and human trafficking, cooperation at the national and international levels. Integrated state border management consists of four levels that are currently being adapted in the process of security of Moldova’s state border. The system includes a great deal of activities for border control and supervision, cooperation at the national and international levels, and local actions to prevent illegal migration and cross-border crime. Throughout the month, similar activities will be carried out in all regional departments of state border supervision and control with participation of the Border Service managers. |
