Asylum Seekers in Latvia will be Ensured Native Language Interpretation

On 1 February 2007, the Deputy Head of the Citizenship and Migration Board of Latvia participated in signing of the Declaration on Exchange of Interpreters, held in Turkey. The signature of this declaration will allow to cooperate in the field of foreign translator's services with video conferences, in cases, when within the state there are no specialists to secure interpretation for asylum seekers into rare languages. The following countries will participate in the project - the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Croatia, the Czhek Republic, Turkey, Bulgaria and Slovakia. Necessary technical equipment will be installed at respective border guards’ institutions to conduct interviews with asylum seekers. The cooperation is mutually beneficial as it will allow reducing the costs of interpretation into rare languages. The project will be funded within the framework of ARGO project.
