| 02.02.2007 A new project aimed at protecting refugees and asylum-seekers is to be launched in Belarus. The project is to be carried out by the State Border Troops Committee. The European Commission and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees are to provide 720,000 Euro for it. The project's major priorities are to ensure the comprehensive and efficient management of migration flows and improve work with displaced persons. The State Border Troops Committee is to identify refugees and asylum-seekers within mixed movements, enable them to access protection, work out procedures for their voluntarily return to their home countries and raise the public's awareness about the need to protect such people. The project envisages the opening of three Internet centers at the Military Academy, the Institute of National Security and the Police Academy and the purchase of eight minivans for the carriage of asylum seekers detained while attempting to illegally cross the border to border control units, migration departments or refugee centers. |
